Smith and Wallwork provided civil and structural design for the £9m new build residences and conferences which will open in July 2016.
The project provides 70 new student rooms on a congested city centre site in the heart of the historic city of Cambridge. A deep basement provides additional bike parking, laundry, archive stores and conference facilities – constructed using an innovative silent piling techniques that formed a research project with CUED – monitoring building and ground movements during construction. The 5 storey project embraced modern methods of construction using cross laminated timber to reduce construction noise accelerate the build process.
