RIBA Pylon Competition
University of Cambridge, Ramboll, MCW Architects
Our concept was simple; the next phase of UK pylons would be built
using UK timber!
The forests of Scotland are ready for harvest. Pine and spruce planted in the 1950s would be felled, treated and laminated to form a series of interlocking columns of wood that are arranged to form a tapering tube.
The inspiration for the form came from Eladio Dieste’s reinforced masonry towers in South America.
