Research is an important tool for us. It enables us to constantly question what we are doing.
Our links with the University of Cambridge are vital in this respect.

We started out working with Digby Symons on a timber and concrete composite floor system and followed up with some interesting
cross-grain crushing tests on cross-laminated timber. Recent work with Michael Ramage has proved equally stimulating,
looking at polymer-modified wood.

In civil engineering our research experience is in road pavement and ground bearing slab modelling, requiring a deep
understanding of the interaction between soil subgrade and slab/pavement mechanical performance.
