Last week saw the installation of the first set of long span steel bow-string trusses at the Stephen Perse Foundation.

Smith and Wallwork engineered a hybrid CLT and steel structure that will provide new sports and classroom facilities at the busy Cambridge site. A large basement was completed in December 2016 and CLT installation started in January 2017. When the building opens later this year it will provide a roof top sports pitch for the school.

The 20m long steel trusses span over a three storey basement sports hall and allow a 2 storey classroom block to sit over the hall. Our design also incorporates a CLT flitch truss wall (a world first?) at ground floor that provides large openings in which bleacher seating can be concealed.

The construction process is being recorded by the school using time lapse photography, click here to view the website.
