Our living willow bridge received its first annual maintenance this week. A team from Cambridge University and Smith and Wallwork were out in the fens to lift the deck and repair some handrail damage.

The lifting of the deck allowed us to inspect the main structure of the arch and start the process of weaving the new growth into the bridge, over time this living weave will replace the dead weave that locks the structure together.

This session was quite therapeutic after a week of disappointment at the structural and wood awards. Despite three short-listings we came away empty handed but being beaten by the Halley VI research station was perhaps inevitable!
