It has been a busy start to the year at Smith and Wallwork. A tally of 4 project wins, 2 submissions to planning authorities, speaking at a TTF event in London and 2 trips to Sweden have filled the books.

Our project wins comprise – a new primary school in Swindon, a private residence in Aldeburgh, a Community Church in Stony Stratford and a business school in Cambridge. Some £10m of construction work.

On the planning front we have been busy negotiating with the Environment Agency and Highways Authority agreeing flood mitigation measures and highway alterations for the Boat House project in Ely. In Scotland our timber and stone tower has involved discussions with a stone mason to deliver a buildable solution for 5 storeys of stacked stonework.

Perhaps most intriguing is our involvement in a new school in Stockholm. We are providing advice and carrying out timber design for a new 10,000m2 building which breaks the mould compared to traditional UK school design. Large open volumes and raking facades are just a few of the challenges.
