2013 was Smith and Wallwork’s first full year and what a year it has been.

Our first projects were completed; a PassivHaus Studio and a Sliding Wall building. The Living Willow Bridge was shortlisted for the 2013 Wood Awards and the 2013 Structural Awards (the first time a living structure has been submitted). Our project work although concentrated in the UK extended to Sweden and then Russia; our first international project will start on site in 2014.

Engagement with industry has been on the agenda for 2013; Smith and Wallwork sat on industry panels for TRADA, Grown in Britain and Design Review Panel (East). We also gave a range of Talks that took us to London, Birmingham, Norwich (and of course Cambridge) and further afield to Edinburgh and Limerick. Our industry links gave us inspiration to write a Viewpoint article for the Structural Engineer journal.

Research and Development has continued in 2013 with work in Sandbag Construction, Willow, Bamboo and CLT. Our links with Cambridge University Centre for Doctoral Training will see this work continue in 2014 through to 2019.
