A new timber school in Stockholm, Sweden.

Client:  Jarfalla Kommun

Architect: Liljewall arkitekter

Value: £25m

Smith and Wallwork provided specialist timber engineering design and BIM modelling for Barkarby School in Stockholm. This pioneering project will be the first use of cross laminated timber on such a large scale in a Swedish school. The architectural concept is quite different from UK schools where cross laminated timber has already started to take a hold in the education market. The architect has created large open spaces within the school, utilising an offset grid to between ground and 1st floor and raking facades and walls to generate a visually striking design.
