Bartlett Stair, University College London

Smith and Wallwork designed a 7-storey feature stair in collaboration with Hawkins Brown. The steel stair is a reciprocal structure that utilises 10mm thick steel plate to form the stair balustrades which act as deep beams – braced by the folded metal plate treads and structure angle handrails. In its review of the building in the Architects Journal, J-J Lorraine describes an ‘exquisitely-crafted black steel stair’.
