Smith and Wallwork collaborated with Hawkins Brown to create a 7 storey feature stairs for the new home of the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL.

The building officially opened on Friday 16th December 2016 with Bob Shiel, head of school, describing the stairs as a ‘social generator’ and Joe Morris review of the building notes ‘…its detail is also worth reflection. 10mm plates of mild steel muscle the clear spans without the need for clumsy box sections or beams. This renders it as an elegant folded piece.’

In its review of the building in the Architects Journal, J-J Lorraine describes an ‘exquisitely-crafted black steel stair’.

The project features in bdonline , Dezeen and the Architects Journal.
