2016 was a busy year for Smith and Wallwork.
In less than 5 years since starting Smith and Wallwork has managed to complete more than 20 projects at a value in excess of £100m. Projects completed in 2016 include Cambridge University Boat Club, a new feature staircase at the Bartlett, Holkham Hall stables and potteries, and a new £10m Technical College at Dagenham in London.
In April, our work on tall timber buildings with Cambridge University and PLP Architecture gained traction with international press and Boris Johnson. A mention in the Economist was a pleasant surprise.
In July, after 10 years in the making, the TRADA pre-scheme handbook was launched. The book was the idea of Simon Smith who also worked on the commissioning and editorial team.
In August, Smith and Wallwork was invited to present a paper at the World Conference on Timber Engineering in Vienna. Our innovative CLT and glulam cut-back rib slab was the focus of our paper.
In October, a research project TTF award at Cambridge University won the TTF student research award. The project brief and funding was provided by Smith and Wallwork.
In December, the RIBA awarded us a research award for our work on Tall Timber Buildings with Cambridge University and PLP Architecture.
All in all a very busy year for Smith and Wallwork.
