We are working on some challenging projects at Smith and Wallwork including an 8 storey timber tower in London and a folded plate structure in Scotland.

The timber tower will be built off a 2nd floor concrete podium and constructed using cross laminated timber that will rise 10 storey’s above ground. The building form comprises a series of twisted and stacked boxes arranged around a central core. A complex 3d structural model is being developed by Smith and Wallwork to predict settlement and lateral sway. Finite element shells are given different properties to mimic the anisotropic properties of CLT and platform interfaces are being closely modelled to gain a true picture of localised stresses and strains.

Our folded steel plate structure in Scotland forms part of a competition entry with Twelve Architects in London. We hope to show you more in the near future.
