Last Friday Smith and Wallwork gave a lecture on ‘Advanced Construction Techniques – Engineered Timber’ to the first cohort of students on the new masters in construction engineering course at Cambridge University.

We shared our experience on engineering some of the UK’s largest timber structures, importantly encouraging students to think beyond engineering the project at hand and to engage with the wider industry and world. Only then is it possible to challenge the norm and introduce new ways of working in our UK construction industry.

The Cambridge masters programme is a joint venture between the engineering department and the Judge business school, perhaps just what is needed to create constructions next pioneers?
