Last week Google announced that it would be funding research into green construction materials. The $3 million grant will be managed by the US Green Building Council.

According to the Google Blog announcement, both research and outreach will form part of the programme of works that will investigate how building materials impact human health. There is also mention of LEED which implies that the research will penetrate industry specification as well as the consumer market.

This work may come too late to have any impact on Google’s plan for its new UK headquarters building at Kings Cross which is at this very moment on the drawing board.
