Today saw the 43rd edition of Earth Day originally designed to highlight our exploitive relationship with the planet. At Smith and Wallwork we decided to highlight some of the day’s most interesting and inspiring stories with an environmental theme.

First up is the result of a study by the University of Exeter that quantifies the benefit of green space in urban environments.

Next, the earth domes that shelter playground children in schools on the Heathrow flight path.

Perhaps not necessarily related to Earth Day we think the plan for a first Lego school is a great idea; architects, engineers and builders of the future will surely be graduating soon.

Finally, this weekend saw the first signs of growth on our woven willow bridge at Cow Hollow…as the picture above proves, the living link really is living!
