Birmingham’s Festival of Architecture celebrates student work from the Centre for Alternative Technology.

The professional diploma course run by CAT tackles environmental issues and puts sustainability at the heart of architecture education. CAT also practices what it preaches and has commissioned a number of ground breaking low energy and low impact buildings over the years.

One of CAT’s most impressive achievements is their ‘Zero Carbon Britain: A New Energy Strategy’, an inspirational piece of research that tackles some difficult but very real options we face if we want to claim to be a low carbon society. Proposing a ban on all UK domestic flights and a reduction in UK livestock shows how far CAT are able challenge our lifestyles.
