A new concrete structural floor system is presented at Ecobuild.

Holedeck is a hollow cassette type structural floor that utilises re-useable shuttering to enable onsite construction. The hollow nature of the system not only means less concrete it also enables building services to be threaded through the structure.

Developed in Spain the system boasts modular adaptable shuttering, 50% less concrete than solid slab, improved thermal mass and sound reverberance as well as lower storey heights (due to services integration).

The system certainly ticks many boxes including the challenge of doing more with less; a pressing theme according to Dr Jullian Allwood of Cambridge University who predicts our thirst for construction materials could double in the next 40 years.
